I myself have actually hosted a few websites on FatCow servers and will probably host more in the future. In general, all of my experiences with them have been positive. From customer service, to up-time, to usability, and of course price, FatCow is always a great, affordable choice.

One of the best things about FatCow is their customer service. I’ve never had a bad experience. The keys to customer service, in my opinion, are knowledge and empowerment. The customer service representative must have both the knowledge of how to help you and in cases that involve money issues be empowered by management to help you. There is nothing more frustrating than spending several minutes explaining your problem to a representative only to find out that they don’t have the power to help you and that you are going to have to explain the exact same thing all over again to their manager.

The uptime at FatCow is also great. I know that my experiences are anecdotal but in the years I’ve been with them I’ve experienced very little downtime and it has always been corrected very quickly.

FatCow is one of the few web hosts that I’ve dealt with that seems to really care about its customers. This is almost an intangible aspect of their company. Basically, they get all the little details right. The fact that they’ve been around since 1998, an eternity in the hosting world, shows that they are in it for the long run. They are not out to screw over their customers and make a quick buck with a cheap product.

One thing I like about FatCow is that all they offer is shared hosting. If you want VPS hosting, a dedicated server, or are a reseller, you're out of luck. However, if you want solid discount shared hosting, you know that FatCow will be 100% focused on improving your experience and not just contstantly trying to bully you into upgrading to a more expensive package.

One good way to determine whether or not to use a certain hosting company is read the complaints. Every single company in the world is going to have complaints. People are much more likely to write bad reviews than good ones. I’ve searched out those complaints, they are few and far between, but they are there. Basically, they fall into two areas I mentioned above. People complain about downtime and customer service. When you have as many customers as FatCow, someone is going to experience downtime at a bad time and someone is going to have reasonable or unreasonable complaints about customer service. What you won’t find, is groups of people complaining on forums together. What you’ll see, is one person complaining, and a few other people either responding or defending FatCow. That is the mark of a truly good company.

FatCow pretty much always has a promo code available for their basic discount hosting package. It is usually the type of coupon that you activate when you click a certain link, like the one below :), and is usually somewhere in the neighborhood of 50%, give or take 10%. The discount seems to be fairly wide-spread and easy to find to I imagine that a significant number of their customers pay the discounted price. It would be silly not to take advantage of the promotion yourself.

In addition to their primary promo, FatCow sometimes offers another smaller discount available for people not getting their most popular hosting package. This is usually a coupon, or "Moo"pon, for a few dollars off. They often have some restrictions on their use for very small purchases, like a single domain name, but in general, if you are not going to get their standard hosting package, this is your only chance at saving any money.

I have personally used FatCow and overall found their service to be quite satisfactory. If you plan to use their standard discount hosting package, take advantage of their promo code because it will save you around 50%.
